All,
on 23 October we have a status meeting with EISCAT. One of the outstanding issues is that we should build a ring, delivering IP service to Skibotn, by summer 2019, while the two sites at Karesuando and Kaiseniemi will only be build in 2020.
As there will likely be nothing at the sites (no buildings, no power, no opportunity to deploy the local loop fibre) by summer 2019, we will have to initially bypass the two sites.
BJ tells me that for Kaiseniemi, this can be done at the Kiruna pop. Can you confirm this, BJ?
For Karesuando, I have info so far. The Sodankylä - Skibotn link pass through the sites, with no PoP or ROADM along the way. Matti, Jani - is there a way to complete the Sodankylä - Skibotn link without the Karesuando site and the local loop fiber to the site?
As indicated, it would be best not to have this as an unknown for the 23 October meeting.
/Lars
Lars,
I can confirm that we can build the ring without Kaiseniemi. That site will be done as a spoke from Kiruna anyway.
And as of your question on cost etc from 2 weeks ago. I can confirm that the SUNET fiber cost stated there is correct (but lacks the last mile). Also the equipment should be fine as long as everything else (in .NO and .FI) is untouched. I suggest that we let Lars Lange sync the equipment one final time after everybody has sent in their info.

Agreed. Also, for those who have not yet done so: please make sure Lars Lange have updated KMZ files.

Gents,
We have asked Bredbåndsfylket Troms regarding KMZ file (or similar) but they do not want to share that with others than Uninett. The attached file is the only we got from them. If you need GPS position for some waypoints along the route we may be able to provide just that.

Thanks for the update. I believe that what Longbear really need is to verify the endpoints and ensure there’s no overlaps. Longbear, can you work with Helge to make sure you have sufficient info to verify the design?

Gents,
it’s a week to the next E3D-network update meeting. We really need to clarify if we can build the Sodankylä - Skibotn part of the ring w/o the Karesuando being ready. If we are unsure, we need to start investigating.

further a kind reminder about any awaiable KMZ files as well as exact position of the POP's and fibre endpoints involved in the design.
POP's: Narvik, Uninett-Sunet meeting point Tromsö, Uninett Skibotn, Uninett Karesuando, both site and Funet Sodankylä, Funet Kalix, Sunet Kiruna, Sunet
Termination points: (if not included in POP) "Skibotn", the meetpoint between Uninett and Funet
KMZ's Any you can share especially the last kilometers towards the POPs so we can evaluate SPOF at the most likely places.

Hi again.
In order to finalise first draft of the drawing I'm still missing all POPs from Uninett, as well as the Kaiseniemi site if that is avaiable. I remember from the Tundra project that we did spend quite some time regarding the handover in Narvik, so I would like to get that 100% right the first time.
Further the Sodankylä - Kalix route would be nice, to make the picture complete.
I understand that yesterdays meeting went well and that closure of the ring through Finland is not needed day one, which makes it somewhat easier for us to achieve our 2019 goal of connecting Skibotn.
