Problems with Harica

Hi everyone, I’m looking for input on how we can better handle the following situation: IGTF Personal Certificates are used for user authentication in collaborations between CERN and Norwegian universities. To enable certificate issuance, Identity Providers in eduGAIN must release certain attributes—most importantly, eduPersonPrincipalName, which GEANT requires for IGTF Personal Certificates [1]. However, HARICA does not currently require this attribute, and Feide cannot release attributes that are not explicitly required. As a result, Sikt is unable to provide IGTF Personal Certificates to our customers. The latest update we received from HARICA (on September 19) was: "This change is already in our plans, but we are also looking to introduce the 'subject-ID' attribute, which appears to be the optimal one for identity mapping. We are discussing internally how to prioritize this over other requested features." For now, we are implementing a workaround for Norwegian universities, but it’s disappointing that a certificate provider operating under a GEANT contract does not already support this. How can we apply more pressure on HARICA to prioritize this change? I would like to touch base with you with regards to the CTO T&I Workshop that will take place in Amsterdam at the end of the month: https://events.geant.org/event/1844/ I pinged GEANT and I understand that the goal is to review the work done in 2025 to execute the "Trust and Identity Strategy 2025-2027”. GEANT will share more material soon. Will each of the Nordics be represented during the meeting? If not, would you like any other Nordic being there to report anything? Would you like to have a call before or after the CTO workshop? Thanks for joining the meeting and follow up actions

Dear all, It was a pleasure to meet you all last week at NCW. I really enjoyed the energy in room and the good discussion that we had. One of the goals of the meeting was to identify what we can do together in addition to the exchange of information. I have taken some notes during the meeting and I have identified some common themes, see pdf attached for more details. I meant to have some more polished notes but I was very busy this week trying to catch up on things. 1. Wallets This was a common topic, not only at technology level but also to understand how things will happen and if will end up with many wallets. An email will follow to work with Stefan on his pilot idea. Stefan’s presentation raised a lot of interest and we will come back with poll to have a dedicated call for that. Also Micro-credentials, verifiable credentials were common themes, it is not strictly wallets but I think we can put them into the same basic. 2. OIDC/OIDF Main aspect discussed during the meeting: focus on the OP support rather than RP how we represent NOReduPerson in OIDC world → wait for the work in GN5x/REFEDS on eduPerson? This was also a common theme - there is some work in the Gnx project and there is also some work ongoing in AARC TREE which is complementary. Maybe we could organise an info share having both groups to present on the work. If you all agree, I can take the action to set up such a thing. 3. Proof IDs for foreign students - this was also something you all had. I’m not sure what we could do about this aspect specifically. Thoughts? 4. Not common to all bu there were questions about the * University Alliances ? maybe we could look at the use-cases for the NRENs? * EOSC AAI was also mentioned - For those of interested I would suggest to read the EOSC AAI Architecture 2025, the work is done under the EOSC A (Semantic and Technical interoperability) See: https://zenodo.org/records/15388270 If you would like something more in depth about that I’m happy to organise that.
