Hello Routing Working Group Members!

Just a reminder our next meeting is December 14, 2021 at 8am Eastern or 1pm UTC. You should have received a calendar invite

Meeting topic: Peering DB

Presenter: Arnold Nipper

Abstract:

PeeringDB is a freely available, user-maintained database of networks,
and the go-to location for interconnection data. The database
facilitates the global interconnection of networks at Internet Exchange
Points (IXPs), data centers, and other interconnection facilities and is
the first stop in making interconnection decisions.

The database is a non-profit, community-driven initiative run and
promoted by volunteers. It is a public tool for the growth and good of
the Internet. Join the community and support the continued development
of the Internet.

There are two ways to interface with the PeeringDB. A modern, easy to
understand web portal that shows the most helpful information about each
of the objects on just one page and at the same time provides URLs to
drill down into more detail. For automation, PeeringDB provides a lean
but yet powerful API.

This presentation first briefly talks about the organisation behind
PeeringDB before describing the GUI. Mainly how one registers an account
and objects with PeeringDB. It then goes into more detail about the
network object and user permissions. The last part introduces the API
and gives a few examples of how to use it.

Arnold Nipper has been with PeeringDB for 13 years and served in
different roles, including being a Board Member. He is now mainly
involved in the day-to-day customer support and development of the
product and evangelising PeeringDB.

As a reminder, if anyone has cases or issues they would like to bring to the RWG people send them to Hans Addleman, Brenna Meade, or Warrick Mitchell. You can also use the slack instance.

Thanks!
