Subject: AS-SETs for NRENs
Title: Collective Action for NREN Routing SecurityJoin the Director of Routing Integrity,
Steve Wallace, and Sr. Network Architect, Jeff Bartig, of Internet2 for a discussion on
“Improving NREN Routing Security with AS-SET”.AS-SET is an IRR object used to publish the
set of origin ASNs a network is expected to announce. Implementation of prefix filters
based on AS-SETs ensure only accepted routes that are intended to be announced by a peer
and limit the propagation of route leaks. The outcome would ensure global NREN routing
stability.The objective of this presentation is to bring together the NREN community to
ensure routing stability as a whole followed by a brief training on how AS-SET is
usedAgenda:
* Brief History of NREN peering policy
* The challenges of NREN routing policy
* Publishing routing policy to enable route filtering
* What is an as-set
* The role of as-sets to enable filter creation
* Models for maintaining as-sets
* Q&A
Who this call is for:
* Network architects and cybersecurity engineers.
* NREN leaders and network managers.
The presentation will be held two times to accommodate the community around the globe,
once on Oct 9 from 8:00-9:00 PM UTC and again on Oct 11 from 12:00-1:00 AM UTC over Zoom
