Greetings,
Internet2 and CAIDA are developing a tool to visualize the AS-level topology of the global R&E ecosystem. The tool currently uses pre-policy routing data from Internet2, and we hope to expand it to incorporate pre-policy data from additional R&E networks.
We would like to explore how this AS-level topology work might connect with the physical topology mapping being developed by the working group.
Brenna Meade and I will be presenting these tools at TNC26. We are also hosting the BoF “Coordinating BGP Policy and Tooling Across the Global R&E Infrastructure” on Thursday from 9:00–10:30 a.m.
For working group members attending TNC26, we would welcome the opportunity to discuss how these two efforts might complement one another. We would also like to arrange a time to demonstrate the tool to the working group and get your input.
Here are a few links that demonstrate how the tool depicts AS topology for different networks:

Hi everyone,
Over the past weeks, we’ve been advancing the GREN Map and preparing a demo for TNC26.
As the map evolves, one question keeps coming up and we’d really value your input: how should we consistently represent the different types of networks and initiatives in our ecosystem?
While working on the current version, we’ve identified some challenges, for example:
- How to distinguish between NRENs, regional backbones, and intercontinental connectivity initiatives;
- How to better represent initiatives/systems/consortiums like AmLight or BELLA without “breaking” the map structure;
- How to reflect the relationships between national, regional, and global infrastructures.
As a starting point, we are exploring a simple classification such as:
- NRENs (e.g., RNP, GARR, etc.);
- Regional/backbone networks (e.g., GÉANT);
- Intercontinental connectivity initiatives (e.g., RedCLARA?);
- Consortia/projects (e.g., BELLA, AmLight).
But this is still work in progress and likely incomplete, that's why we would really appreciate your thoughts:
- Does this classification make sense?
- What are we missing?
- How would you represent initiatives that don’t neatly fit into one category?
To help move this forward, we are considering a call in early June (around June 4) to discuss this topic and also share what we are planning to present at TNC26.
If you have quick thoughts, feel free to reply directly to this thread.
Even brief comments would already be very helpful.
Looking forward to your feedback.
Best regards,

Hi All,
I was looking at deploying the GREN Map using the HELM chart and I seem to be running into a couple of issues.
1. The openldap bitnami image not being available on docker when I try the preparation steps. (GitHub - grenmap/GREN-Helm-Deployment-Example: How to run a GREN map DB node on Kubernetes * GitHub<https://github.com/grenmap/GREN-Helm-Deployment-Example>)
2. Redis version no longer available in docker repository (I think)
3. Grenmap-django image pull issue (may be an authentication issue)
I was able to build the openldap image and get the IdP container running before moving on to building the HELM chart. However, I seem to have issues with redis version no longer available and an issue getting the grenmap-django image.
I was wondering if anyone has come across this issue before or if there is anything obvious that I may be missing when trying to build this (this is my first time building this using the HELM chart but I think I ran into similar issues with images when testing previously).
Any help would be greatly appreciated?
cd demo-config
./configure.sh
/GREN-Helm-Deployment-Example/demo-config/GREN-Map-DB-Node$ vim docker-compose.idp.yml
openldap:
image: bitnami/openldap:latest
environment:
- LDAP_PORT_NUMBER=1389
- LDAP_ADMIN_PASSWORD=${LDAPPWD}
- LDAP_ROOT=dc=example,dc=org
- LDAP_CUSTOM_SCHEMA_FILE=/bitnami/openldap/custom/schema/openLdapEduperson.ldif
- LDAP_CUSTOM_LDIF_DIR=/bitnami/openldap/custom/ldif
volumes:
- ./openldap/container_files:/bitnami/openldap/custom
I was getting this error.
Error response from daemon: failed to resolve reference "docker.io/bitnami/openldap:latest": docker.io/bitnami/openldap:latest: not found
I was able to build this container following this site (bitnami/openldap - Docker Image<https://hub.docker.com/r/bitnami/openldap>) And I was able to move on to the build the HELM chart but I'm now seeing an error when trying to pull some other images:
GREN-Helm-Deployment-Example$ kubectl get pod

One issue seems to the redis version not available

And another issue seems to be with the django image, with maybe an authentication error?

Hello everyone,
Better late than never!
I am writing to share a summary of what was discussed during our GREN Map WG meeting in November.
Please find the detailed meeting notes attached to this email.
In the attached slides, you will find screenshots and details of two Proof of Concepts (PoCs) we have been working on:
*
Global Network Advancement Group (GNA-G) Projects: We are replicating the map currently found on the GNA-G website, featuring international connection projects (e.g., AmLight, APOnet, BELLA, etc.) within our dynamic environment.
*

We also presented upcoming automation features for collecting and anonymizing data from Netbox to GRENML, which will be published soon.
GRENML Repository Launch
I am pleased to announce our GRENML repository, which currently hosts topologies for several NRENs. For this initial version ("Version 0"), we utilized data available via the GÉANT Compendium. We invite you to explore it here: https://github.com/grenmap/GRENML-Repository
Holiday Schedule
Due to agenda conflicts and the holiday season, we will not hold meetings in December or January.
We will resume our activities in February 2026.
I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
