Dear All:
The GNA-G Leadership Team received a number of questions on preparedness
of R&E Networks to deal with the increased usage of online services in
the area of Research and Education, in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.
We created a survey to harvest information on what you are doing in your
own service area, with respect to the network and its operations. The
aim is to collect this information to discover trends and best current
practices, so we can learn from each other.
While universities and schools worldwide are closing their doors for
physical classes, many state that their core business of teaching and
learning will continue online. The R&E Networks of the world have a
crucial role to play, more than ever, in supporting the universities and
schools in ensuring continuity.
This survey is focusing on the network and its operations, although we
acknowledge of course that the breadth of services that an NREN provides
is usually much broader than the network. This is GNA-G, hence the focus
on the network.
Please take a moment to fill out the survey. The Leadership Team will
summarize and make input available to the GNA-G Community, as of next
week when we expect to have a first critical mass of useful answers.
The survey can be found at:
https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/GNA-G-COVID-19-Readiness
Thank you, and be safe.
Kind regards,

For those attending SC19 in Denver, Colorado, we will hold the "Global Research Platform (GRP): Creating Worldwide Advanced Services and Infrastructure for Science” Birds of a Feather (BOF) meeting:
* Tuesday, November 19
* 5:15PM - 6:45PM
* Room: 710, Colorado Convention Center

International scientific initiatives collaborate on building, accessing and analyzing data from one-of-a-kind advanced instruments in unique locations around the globe, connected to remote computational, data storage, and visualization systems at speeds of gigabits and terabits per second. The Global Research Platform (GRP) focuses on the design, implementation, and operation strategies for next-generation distributed services and network infrastructure, on a global scale, to facilitate data transfer and accessibility. GRP BoF presentations and discussions address global science drivers and their requirements and describe emerging Research Platforms worldwide that are developing and customizing data fabrics and distributed cyberinfrastructure to support data-intensive scientific workflows.
To see demonstrations relevant to GRP, visit us at the StarLight research booth on the exhibition floor from Tuesday-Thursday, Booth #993.

Dear Members of the GNA-G Community:
At the GNA-G meeting in Tallinn, in June of this year, there was
discussion about the structure of the leadership of the GNA-G moving
forward. Initially, there were three co-chairs, i.e. Erik-Jan Bos, David
Wilde, and Dale Finkelson. These were co-chairs of the GNA or the GLIF
prior to the merger of the two on 1 July 2019. Also during Tallinn, we
were happy that Jim Ghadbane volunteered to act as the Executive Liaison
for GNA-G.
While having the initial three co-chairs proved useful as an initial
structure at the outset of the GNA-G meeting in Tallinn, it also became
clear that this arrangement was not the best way for moving forward. As
a result of suggestions heard at the Tallinn meeting, a call went out to
the GNA-G Community for individuals who would be interested in joining
the GNA-G Leadership Team in setting the directions and doing oversight
of the GNA-G.
We are now pleased to announce that three individuals did step up to
this challenge and have joined the three initial co-chairs to form a
six-member Leadership Team. We hereby ask you all to welcome Harvey
Newman from the California Institute of Technology, Gerben van
Malenstein from SURF, and Buseung Cho from KREONET/KISTI in their new
roles as members of the GNA-G Leadership Team.
Thank you and kind regards,
David, Dale, and Erik-Jan.
