Dear GNA-G Community:
Earlier this week, the Q4 2021 Community VCs took place. If you were
there, thank you for participating!
One of the topics that was discussed is the draft for the new map for
the front page of the GNA-G website (https://www.gna-g.net/) Since the
time the existing map was created, the GREN has moved forward.
A big thanks to Jane Gifford of AARNet who is the creator of the
original map. She is now working with the Leadership Team on creating an
update.
The draft new map as was shown during the Q4 2021 Community VCs. During
the VCs, we already received the following comments (thanks!):
* The interconnection between the North American GXPs needs to be reviewed.
* A new link between Mtunzini and Amsterdam, that balances the link
between Cape Town and London, should be added.
* In AER, Jeddah should be a dot on the map, as there is a GXP in
Jeddah, and the links between Jeddah and Amsterdam and between Jeddah
and Singapore should be double.
* In APOnet, there are a few links that might need to be double.
* Also in APOnet, the links to Auckland need a double check.
Please review the map and reply to me with your suggestions. I will
collect them, review them with the Leadership Team and Jane, and from
that we will produce the new version.
Thank you and happy holiday season.
Kind regards,

Subject: GNA-G Leadership Team Call for Nominations
Dear GNA-G Community member,
The GNA-G Nominations Committee (NomCom) is accepting nominations for the GNA-G Leadership Team (LT) through 23:00 GMT 31 October 2021. The LT has two vacancies.
Introduction
The current Leadership Team consists of four co-chairs: Erik-Jan Bos (NORDUnet), Buseung Cho (KISTI), Harvey Newman (Caltech), and David Wilde (AARnet) with two vacancies. The vacancies are for a 24-month (2-year) term and 48-month (4-year) term respectively.
Anyone working in the R&E networking community is eligible to serve in the LT. The NomCom will be looking for candidates with technical competence, organizational skills, or relevant experience. The NomCom will emphasize diversity in the composition of the LT, in particular age, gender, and continent. Experience in the field of R&E networking and/or running Global eXchange Points (GXPs) is welcome.
What does it mean to be an LT member?
The LT looks after the long-term evolution of the networking layer of the Global R&E Network (GREN) and provides oversight to the GNA-G Working Groups. The LT also manages the GNA-G website and consults with the Executive Liaison from time to time. For more information see https://www.gna-g.net/about-us/.
On a regular basis, the LT meets by VC, to discuss progress, issues, and community meetings. Due to the global nature of the GREN, the work in GNA-G means a VC out of office hours, due to time zones. Also, the full GNA-G Community meets every now and then to discuss developments and next steps at global events as much as possible. Hence this involves occasional intercontinental travel. There is no reimbursement for serving on the LT, as this is deemed a community service supported by your home organization.
How to get nominated?
Any member of the GNA-G Community may nominate any member of the GNA-G Community for the open positions; self-nomination is permitted. A nomination is only complete when supported by at least one other member from the community, from a different organization, participating in the GNA-G, than the nominee. In addition, the nominee must accept the nomination.
A nomination can have two forms:
1. You can nominate someone + get a second from a member of the community + have the nominee accept the nomination; or
2. Nominate yourself + get a second from a member of the community.
You must indicate why you want to join the GNA-G LT and whether you prefer a 24-month or 48-month term. Nominations should be sent to: nominations(a)lists.gna-g.net<mailto:nominations@lists.gna-g.net>. Accepted nominations will be made public to the GNA-G community.

Hi all,
We’ve started preparing for the next Community VCs… these will be our seventh!
The last few VCs have been great – in particular the “Innovation Corner”. As we wrap up the year and look ahead to 2022, we’re aiming to include some more interactive sessions in these next VCs: perhaps a panel, or a facilitated workshop-style discussion, or perhaps we’ll even get Warrick Mitchell back with another Menti survey :-)
As always however, we’re keen to include what you want. Do you have an idea you think we should be discussing, or a topic you’d like to hear about? Or do you have something you’d like to present or share with the community? If so, please email us: leadershipteam(a)lists.gna-g.net<mailto:leadershipteam@lists.gna-g.net>. Or alternatively reply-all to all(a)lists.gna-g.net<mailto:all@lists.gna-g.net> and let the community hear your idea directly...
No idea is too small or too ambitious!
We’ll gradually start adding information onto the webpage, as the agenda takes form:
https://www.gna-g.net/attend-a-meeting/gna-g-community-vcs-q4-2021/
And in the meantime, you can register for the VCs (these details are on the website also):
VC #1: Wednesday, 15 December 2021, 4pm – 6pm UTC
Most suitable for participants from North America, Latin America,
Africa, and Europe. Registration link:

VC #2: Thursday, 16 December 2021, 7am – 9am UTC
Most suitable for participants from Asia, Australia, New Zealand,
Africa, and Europe. Registration link:

Looking forward to seeing you there!
